Limbs & Things

Limbs & Things Ltd supply ‘training products’ to the various medical professions. These products include medical simulation models ideal for training healthcare professionals. One such training device is the birthing simulator. Since 2003, PaniK have worked with Limbs & Things in the development and evolution of the birthing simulator design. The product is now being extensively used by many organizations as a training simulator for childbirth.
A key feature of the birthing simulator is a PaniK developed electronic strain gauge which provides data on forces exerted by the student during simulated birth. The strain gauge has been developed with PC connectivity for the monitoring and collating data from student training sessions.
Since the early days, Limbs & Things have retained PaniK to assist on numerous projects relating to the birth simulator, including the incorporation of a USB interface.
Most recently, Limbs and Things have commissioned PaniK to manufacture batches of ‘electronic kits’ which are assembled as part of the birthing simulator product.

Thruput

Thruput Limited provides a managed obsolescence service to sustain the operational capability of in-service processors, data access and peripheral hardware for many legacy technology computer systems. Such legacy systems includes The DEC PDP8 and DEC PDP11.
In 2006, PaniK were commissioned by Thruput to design a RAM based disk drive replacement unit for PDP8 and PDP11 minicomputers. There are still thousands of PDP8 and PDP11 minicomputers in use worldwide. Many of the disk drive units are failing and the replacement of the drive is a good option to maximize the PDP computer investment for the end user client.

PaniK’s solution involved the ram-disk being fitted into a standard PC 3.5” disk drive caddy. Front panel LED’s indicate the status of the system and ‘buttons’ are provided as part of the design for load and unload. PC connectivity is by way of parallel port or USB. The USB connection version includes a front panel mounted connector for operation using a PC pen-drive.

PCB Printed Circuit Board
This development is a self testing, self analyzing emergency evacuation microphone for 'public address systems'. This product provides a secure link to the public address infrastructure and is capable of signaling a fault condition in the event of failure. Following the design and prototype of this unit, we produced a batch of 70 off completed, assembled and tested PCB's (Printed Circuit Board).

In order to test these parts in production, PaniK also designed and built a simple test rig.

Surface Inspection Ltd - Trigger PCB

Surface Inspection Ltd, is a Bristol based enterprise who manufacture equipment for inspecting the quality of finish on ceramic tiles. Following a design change elsewhere in their system, a problem was discovered with one of the trigger signals. PaniK produced a design for a retro-fit board to eliminate this problem and currently supply 10 assemblies per month. Surface Inspection Ltd - Trigger PCB
